    "If you build it, they will come" is not necessarily true on the Web. Putting a website up is one thing, but getting visitors to come to your site is another. The process becomes even more difficult if you have limited resources to market your business.

    Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

    1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement – if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

    2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that's additional traffic that you get for FREE!

    3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

    If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com's "Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day." http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm

    4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News. My website (see my profile) accepts free press release submission (no strings attached!)

    5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

    6. Improve your conversion. Getting visitors is one thing; getting them to buy your products is a whole different story. Read the article "10 Ways to Convert Visitors to Buyers" http://www.powerhomebiz.com/072005/conversion.htm for tips on how to improve your conversion rates.

    There are many SEO companies that offer training programs. In addition, some universities and institutions offer certificates in Internet Marketing or Internet Programming. However, the principles behind Business Management and Marketing are similar to Internet Marketing. That said, a conventional marketer cannot be successful in internet marketing without extensive knowledge and research of the 'net.

    So I would recommend you to visit seomoz.org, and other similar SEO blogs and websites, and read all of their articles, read their blogs, take their quizzes and tutorials. At the same time, a certificate in Internet Marketing or a Bachelor's in Business is helpful to make you successful – but many successful Search Engine Optimizers and Marketers did not have any of these credentials, they learned from real life experience.

    I did a certificate in Internet Programming and I won't say it wasn't worth it, but it was very expensive and in hindsight I shouldn't have spent that much money on it. Be very careful of fraud schools like CDI.

  5. Dwrd S says:

    Go back to the very beginning and watch each video. In each video, it shows you EXACTLY what to do. Basically, you will create a username and password AND a display name that will become your personal URL. This personal URL is the key to getting credit/paid. You will not be obligated to shell out money *with the exception* of Global Domains International, or GDI. This stream of income is worth the $10 per month! If anything, watch this video and set yourself up. You can promote the SpiderWeb System AND GDI separately. I know the videos are overwhelming, but if you watch 1 a day..you'll eventually finish. In the meantime, promote GDI. You will start to see money.

  6. Among many companies offering affiliate programs and credit card payment facilities, http://www.ClickBank.com is still a strong choice among merchants and internet marketers.

    When you decide to become an affiliate to earn commission dollars on http://www.ClickBank.com, browse to see what products are hot with this official ClickBank tool http://cbengine.com/. Choose product similar to your business or field of your interests so it will be easier for you to market. To get started you just have to complete a simple online registration form. Then you are on your way. For affiliate products you will get a code and link.

    So my suggestion is http://www.ClickBank.com

    @mgore90 your comment is irrelevant in comparison to the lucid statement made by bobbysnobby… everyone on this page knows what you just wrote… you sound like your marketing yourself…

    If you are running a website with this program (I am assuming it is an affiliate), you should have someone SEO your website. It will bring you more traffic, and you will be on the road to maximizing your results. I could help more if I knew exactly what this Spider Web Marketing System is, but I hope this helps a bit. Feel free to email me if you have more questions.

    @bobbysnobby
    Sorry man, I completely misinterpreted much of what you said and followed on with an almost rehearsed argument. I only really read the first three lines and took it as a classic ‘do you think people are stupid, they can tell what’s good for them, what they want will be reflected in the market’ kind of thing. My bad.

    Freelance is really the only way I'm getting work any more. No one wants an on-staff web designer. You just have to target businesses that have old/terrible/out of date websites, and present to them how a new website could increase profits.

  11. earth says:

    @mgore90 They do but corporations are profit making machines and their investors have rights, corporations which knowingly reduce profits are liable to be sued by those investors. If u want to argue that commercials dont tell us the whole truth then i would agree, if you are arguing that it is the role of commercials to tell the whole truth and educate i utterly disagree you might as well say Cartoon network cartoons dont educate us about the environmental costs of first world living…ok, and?

  12. AriesGuy says:

    Web Marketing is a whole other beast in terms of a job. If this person is familiar with SEO (Search engine optimization), and has a good understanding on how websites are crawled then he is qualified.

    However, keep in mind that he already has his plate full. Not to mention that marketing really has nothing to do with Information Technology.

    If it were me I would outsource that project, or place someone else in charge of it. Because in marketing you need to have someone that is familiar with ways to make people act now. It has nothing to do with a layout, or technical design. It's more content related, and "people" orientated.

    Just my opinion though.

  13. Cleo says:

    hi cleo, a web marketing representative can make anywhere between 5k to 10k monthly. it also depends on how good of a salesperson you are, motivation counts aswell. you have to try to promote your business and services aswell. be sure to be good at what you do, remember that your clients are your business cards, you do a good job with one, then they will reffer you:-)

    @CaveatEmptor91
    Yeah your right, I should learn to read other peoples comments in full b4 I comment on them. I read over it quickly and noticed that one of his other comments had been removed, so I took that to mean that my wrong assumption ( I make too many baseless assumptions) that he was a ‘Ron Paul’ libertarian was correct.
    I am dyslexic, may explain my lack of lucidity, but I misread, my apologies.
    I really do feel like a dick now, but thanks for pointing it out I guess.

    Well naturally I think Corporations are an abominable creation, local co-operatives would be a far more equitable solution. Checks and balances would have to be put in place, and the power of the central government limited. I’d also say that small government is usually only espoused by politicians as a way to weaken the central governments ability to protect it’s own citizens from private tyranny. The large corporations need to go b4 small government is viable.

    I have attended online sales training programs from http://www.onlinetrainingexperts.com; they are professionals and their topics are content rich and delivered by Industry experts and top speakers like Jim Cathcart, Orvel Ray Wilson, Connie Kadansky, Karla Brandau, Jenae Rubin, Don McNamara, Alan Rigg, Tim Connor and many more.

    Have a look at their offerings; the training programs they have are either Live or On Demand recorded versions. The training programs are only one hour long against off line seminars which are a day or half-day long. The price they charge for attending these training programs are $199/person.

    All the best for a innovative approach on staff training.
